Buffalo Bills: Things We Know This Week

Week 1 is officially over. As expected, a million different pundits put out Power Rankings as soon as they were able. Each NFL team neatly sorted into a variety of tiers, and subjectively ranked from best in the league to worst. It’s easy, digestible, and for every new ranking comes a new reasoning. Here, we’re listing every ranking we can find for the Buffalo Bills. That’s right, all of them. For all your Buffalo Bills Power Ranking cravings, look no further.

“On Thursday night at SoFi Stadium, long after most Rams fans had headed for the exits, thousands of visiting Bills supporters hung around to soak in the feeling of an extremely satisfying victory. Sean McDermott’s team had drubbed the defending champions, 31-10, exorcising the demons of January’s excruciating Divisional Round loss in Kansas City. Josh Allen played like an MVP favorite, and the Bills’ front seven dominated the trenches, making life miserable for Matthew Stafford. On paper entering this season, it looked like Buffalo had the most complete team in football. One game in, the on-field product supports that notion.”

“After Week 1, no one can say that the Bills didn’t put the NFL on notice. By humiliating the reigning Super Bowl champion Rams on the road, Buffalo has sent a warning shot to the rest of the league.”

“Josh Allen played a near-perfect game in a blowout win over the reigning Super Bowl champions. The defense allowed 3.7 yards per play, good for second best in Week 1, without star cornerback Tre’Davious White. The Bills are quite plainly the best team in the NFL.”

Rookie who stood out: RB James Cook

“Unfortunately, the second-round pick stood out for the wrong reason — fumbling on his first career NFL snap during the Bills’ turnover-filled start against the Rams. The Bills recovered from their three turnovers in the first half to finish with a convincing win, but Cook played only two more snaps. With the talent that Buffalo has on offense, his playing time will likely slowly increase over the course of the season. ‘I’m glad [Cook] got [the fumble] out the way,’ Von Miller said. ‘He showed us all types of crazy stuff in practice, man, he’s gonna have an excellent year this year.’” — Alaina Getzenberg

“Everything went as designed for the Bills in the opener after the first-half turnovers. Josh Allen looked like one of the two or three best quarterbacks in the league, while Gabriel Davis and Stefon Diggs complemented each other perfectly. The defense delivered the ideal recipe for every non-Wink Martindale defensive coordinator by creating pressure with a four-man rush — seven sacks with no blitzes is almost too good to be true. Isaiah McKenzie even provided the sweetest moment of the week. The vibes are strong.”

“After their showing against the Rams, there is no doubt they should be in this top spot. They sent a message to the rest of the league with that victory.”

“Dating back to the playoffs last year, the Bills have logged a majority percentage of the most phenomenal offensive performances we’ve seen by a football team over the last calendar year. Josh Allen is a missile headed for the MVP award.”

“The Bills showed how fully loaded they are offensively around MVP favorite Josh Allen and defensively around newcomer Von Miller in dominating the Rams after getting out of their own giveaway ways. They are the team to beat in the top-heavy AFC.”

“Wow, what a win! The Bills made numerous mistakes in the first half, and yet they clobbered the Rams, 31-10. Imagine how that game would have gone if the Bills were able to hang on to the ball prior to intermission.”

“The Buffalo Bills are the best NFL team in 2022. They proved that in more ways than one, blowing out the defending champion Rams on the road in Week 1. Josh Allen scored four combined touchdowns. Stefon Diggs did his thing through the air. Defensively, the Bills got to Matthew Stafford for seven sacks while intercepting him a whopping three times. Sean McDermott has himself a well-oiled machine in Western New York.”

Well, it all seems pretty definitive. The Buffalo Bills are first place in just about every Power Rankings on the market right now. Let’s look at the numbers, though it feels pointless this week.
