South Florida burger missionary Jeffrey Lemmerman, better known by his Instagram handle, Cheffrey Eats, claims not to know that this is National Sandwich Month: “It’s hard to keep track of all these ‘months,’ ” he says.

Especially because he’s too busy making ridiculously magnificent sandwiches. And this is a particularly important weekend for fans of his work at his expanding empire of awesome.

On Sunday at 1 p.m., he’ll be at Broski Ciderworks in Pompano Beach, where his second food truck (less than a month old) will be set up for a one-day-only revival of his fan-favorite Miso Hungry Burger, layered in black garlic aioli, caramelized onion jam and truffled gruyere cheese. The Miso Hungry is among Cheffrey’s greatest-hits series of burger favorites served on Sundays at Broski Ciderworks.

“Every Sunday, I bring back a former Burger of the Month, just that Sunday. So people only have one day to relive this creation,” says Cheffrey, a Lake Worth Beach resident who trained in the culinary program at Johnson & Wales University in North Miami after graduating with a business degree from UCF.

This particular burger is special for having drawn the praise of noted local burgermeister and former Sun Sentinel bon vivant Michael Mayo in the Sun Sentinel’s Let’s Eat South Florida Facebook group.

“This is the burger that Michael Mayo came and tried for the first time. He wrote a very nice post on Let’s Eat claiming us to be one of the best burgers in South Florida, which is pretty cool,” Cheffrey says. (Watch him make it here.)

Also on Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m., the original Cheffrey Eats food truck will continue its monthly Sunday Pairing Series at its permanent home outside Barrel of Monks Brewing in Boca Raton. This edition will offer a Greek menu led by David Gribble, formerly head chef at Death or Glory in Delray Beach (RIP). Paired with a flight of BOM’s Belgian craft ales, the four-course menu will include stuffed grape leaves, yogurt-marinated chicken skewer, falafel in a pita (with housemade tzatziki) and classic pistachio baklava. Price: $30.

But, back to sandwiches … If you follow Cheffrey Eats on Instagram, as you should, you may have been transfixed by imagery posted this week of his Van Dammewich. The sandwich was created for Barrel of Monks, home of Belgian ale, as part of its possibly not satirical Van Damme Day celebration of the actor’s birthday.

The Van Dammewich ($16), available anytime at Broski and Barrel of Monks, includes two pieces of buttermilk fried chicken, accented with BOMB Sauce and Gribble’s homemade pickles. The key is the BOMB Sauce (named for Barrel of Monks Brewing), which Cheffrey says is a blend of minced garlic and three housemade sauces: barbecue, Thai chili and bacon honey mustard sauce.

“It was so popular, we kept it on the menu,” says Cheffrey, declaring it “the best chicken sandwich you’ll ever have.”

Think ink: The 25th annual South Florida Tattoo Expo hits the Coral Springs Marriott from Friday through Sunday, with a long lineup of skin artists and colorful entertainment to raise money for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood.
